Hit with Email Identity Theft
I received quite a surprise when I logged onto my webmail account and found hundreds of Mailer Daemon emails waiting for me. Someone has collected my email address and has been using it since yesterday to spam countless number of people. If you are one of the people who received spam from my address, I apologize. I have alerted my webhost to this problem and will be looking into reporting this theft to the appropriate authorities, whatever that agency may be.
I will keep you updated about this situation because email identity theft has become a widespread problem.
Kind regards,
Deborah Woehr

Deborah,
I had this exact same thing happen to me last year. It seemed quite obvious to me after looking at the email’s headers that the 1000s of emails that appeared to be coming from me, weren’t from me. But I actually had a guy from Washington State, who was the CEO of a data collection company, call me and act like he was some government official, blaming me, harassing me, and threatening me over the phone. He even had the Sheriff’s department from my town call me, for which I was cooperative, but as usual, you’re guilty until proven innocent in this country. Thankfully, GoDaddy, is my email and provider and they did their own investigation and protected me from being harassed any further.
Wish you the best of luck! I certainly empathisize!

Hi, Andi!
That CEO must have had a lot of problems with spammers to get so irate about the issue. I’ve had some good experiences with GoDaddy. I’m glad they were on your side.
I contacted my webhost right away, and they said that this was an email forgery committed by someone who is using Outlook. I’m very glad that they were understanding about it and didn’t shut off my account. They said that the best thing I can do is forward all of this junk into a special account in my webmail.
